Pictures below show the stock lower intake manifold with the incoming air sections highlighted in red and the intercooled air flowing to the engine highlighted in blue.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\"\u003e \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\"\u003eThe problem with the design of the factory system is this:\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\"\u003eAs you can see from the intake pictures above, the air has its choice of flowing though one of 4 cores. In this fashion, each core cools 25% of the air going into the engine. The factory intercooler system sends water from the front mount heat exchanger to only one of the IC cores. That IC core then feeds the next IC core and so on. With this design each laminova core receives warmer water. So if your incoming water is 80 deg going into the first core, it may be 90 going into the 2nd, then 100 going into the 3rd and 110 going into the 4th. Clearly this isn't the best way to utilize the cores.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\"\u003e \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\"\u003eBy installing the dual pass end plate, the water is fed to 2 cores at the same time which then feed the other 2 cores. Using the above hypothetical numbers, 2 of the cores would receive 80 deg water and two of them would receive 90 deg water. This improves the systems ability to cool the air and lowers IATs.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\"\u003e \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\"\u003eThere is another benefit to the dual pass and ZZP is proud to be the first to bring this information to light. The stock laminova cores are restrictive for a pump as large as the one used in the LSJ. The laminova cores have limited coolant flow area as shown below right and highlighted in blue.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\"\u003e \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\"\u003eBy running the dual pass endplate, which runs 2 cores in parallel, the coolant flow rate is increased by 40%. This provides additional gains. The gains of higher coolant flow have been backed up by our supercharger dyno. We measured continued intercooler performance as flow increased. Gains did approach diminishing returns but there was a measured gain from 4 to 6 GPM.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\"\u003e \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\"\u003eImportant to keep in mind is that a vehicle running our dual pass endplate will circulate ~1.5 gallons in a 14 second 1\/4 mile pass. The engine is aluminum, as is the intake and they conduct heat very well. Your 180 deg engine adds unwanted heat to the LIM which houses the intercooler. That is why you need to upgrade with our ZZP LSJ phenolic spacer. A cooler charge will make more power. Keep in mind that removing heat adds power not only by increasing air density, but also by helping cool your IAT2s down to help prevent detonation. \u003cbr\u003e   \u003cbr\u003e We isolate the intake from 95+% of its contact to the engine which is what is heating it up. See pic below showing that the heat from the engine is isolated where the intake connects to the engine. \u003cbr\u003e The engine runs at approx 185 deg and has a direct metal to metal contact with a large surface area on the intake. This is constantly trying to heat the intake\/IC system\/blower to this temp. This puts additional heat into the IC system and is the reason on summer days you will see IATs at idle\/cruise 40 to 60 deg over ambient. While the lower part of the intake has a mounting point, it is very small and bolts to a bracket which then bolts to the engine. This is quite a bit of separation and the contact is small enough to be negligible.\u003cbr\u003e \u003cbr\u003e The air under the hood on a summer day is normally around 140 deg but air doesn't do a very good job at heating things, not like metal\/metal or fluid\/metal. So with the spacer you can expect a much cooler intake, much cooler blower and lower IATs all the time, even under boost. Our 5th injector kit includes an adjustable controller that you mount inside the car. The controller allows you to set the MAF frequency that you would like the 5th injector to begin spraying. It starts at a low duty cycle in order to keep the air fuel ratio from changing abruptly. The controller also includes a high frequency setting which is the MAF frequency at which your 5th injector will reach 100% duty cycle. The fuel injector mounts to the intake manifold in an existing hole, so the manifold does not have to be removed from the engine. The install is simple, the most time spent on the install is routing the wires nicely into the cabin of the car and mounting the controller box. It could be functional within an hour, if you didn't spend the time to route the wires nicely and mount the controller box somewhere nice and permanent. Simply unbolt the factory EVAP solenoid, mount the ZZP 5th injector kit, re-install the EVAP solenoid on the supplied bracket, and connect 4 wires.
